Strengthen, Scale, Support

On Earth Day, we want to share with you our action plan for a more sustainable future. Our strategy — recently supported by a $60 million investment through The Audacious Project — focuses on three key components: Increasing demand for planet-friendly alternatives to wood (which we call Next Gen Solutions), scaling their production, and supporting forest conservation efforts.
Increase demand for Next Gen Solutions
Canopy has already secured commitments from over 900 companies to stop sourcing trees from climate-critical forests for paper, packaging, and textiles. Our goal now is to work with even more brands, deepen commitments from existing partners, and make it easier for companies to adopt low impact Next Gen technologies into their supply chains.
Scale Next Gen production
Our plan is to secure more investments from the finance community, in order to expand the production of Next Gen Solutions to different regions of the world and create a larger market for new and innovative technologies. We'll establish a critical mass of Next Gen production in six regions alongside our partners — starting in India, North America, and Europe.
Support the protection of crucial forests
While we are scaling solutions, we are bringing industry influence and resources to community-led conservation efforts to protect forests. While other tactics help relieve logging pressure, conservation is the only way for forests to remain durably protected.
These three strategies will help us power our Audacious plan to catalyze a dramatic scaling of Next Gen pulp production capacity so that in less than ten years, Ancient and Endangered Forest (A&E) pulp are saved from the supply chain entirely, and 90-130 million hectares of A&E Forests are formally protected or in a long-term logging moratorium.
Next Gen Solutions are our answer to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by nearly half a billion tonnes in the next seven years, protecting 40 million hectares of Ancient and Endangered Forests by 2029, and eliminating their use altogether within the next ten years.
