Friday, November 4, 2016. Brooklyn, New York – Canopy was honoured to receive the BF+DA Positive Impact Award for Leadership in Creating a Better Supply Chain this past Friday. The award recognizes the CanopyStyle Initiative, a collaborative campaign to end the use of the world’s ancient and endangered forests in rayon and viscose fabrics. This commendation comes hot on the heels of the CanopyStyle summit in New York, which featured 87 fashion brands, representing 180 USD billion in annual revenue, working together to stop their industry’s part in global deforestation. Nicole Rycroft, Canopy’s Founder and Executive Director, was in Brooklyn to accept the award.

Launched three years ago, CanopyStyle now has 68 apparel brands and designers formally committed to eliminating their use of fabrics that contain endangered forests. This momentum has motivated fabric producers that represent 70% of global rayon production to work with Canopy to operationalize policies that will eliminate sourcing from the world’s endangered forests, kick-start next generation fabrics that use alternative fibers and support conservation solutions for our forests.

“It’s wonderful to be honoured for CanopyStyle and of course, we wouldn’t be here if 68 brands had not taken up the challenge to halt deforestation in partnership with Canopy,” said Nicole Rycroft, at the award ceremony. “We’ve come a long way, fast. CanopyStyle shows the power of collective action. We look forward to more brands joining the campaign to accelerate to more collective successes!”

The gala honoured other leaders in the sustainable fashion industry including ethical powerhouses (and CanopyStyle partners) Patagonia and EILEEN FISHER.
