MEDIA ADVISORY: World-renowned Camouflage Artist Shines Light on Plight of World’s Most Vital Forests

British Columbia, August 23, 2022 — Award-winning artist Filippo Ioco, known for his groundbreaking optical illusion body art, is bringing his craft to the west coast of British Columbia to call for the protection of irreplaceable endangered forests around the world.

Over 3.2 billion trees are cut down every year for paper packaging and fashion fabrics, deepening the growing deforestation and forest degradation crisis and threatening the future of the world’s most vital and biodiverse ecosystems, like the iconic old-growth forests on British Columbia’s coast. 

Filippo was commissioned by Canopy, a global environmental nonprofit that works with world-leading brands – like Amazon, Ben & Jerry’s, and LVMH – to shift supply chains out of vital forests and towards more sustainable alternatives. Filippo will be painting four models from head to toe to camouflage them into their surrounding forest landscapes. 

The powerful and emotive images aim to show that forests are vital to our survival, and to compel global decision makers, including lawmakers in British Columbia, to take timely action to keep forests standing, especially in light of the growing climate and biodiversity crises.
