This past weekend, Canopy had the privilege of participating in Bharat Tex 2025, a global textile event that underscored India’s leadership in sustainable and circular solutions. With Next Gen materials taking center stage, the event highlighted India’s strategic advantage in catalyzing textile waste and scaling low-carbon innovation for global markets.
Key Highlights from Bharat Tex:
Unlocking Capital for Next Gen Infrastructure
Canopy’s Founder and Executive Director, Nicole Rycroft, contributed to a high-level panel ‘Economic Green Prints: Navigating the Financial Landscape of Sustainability’ discussing the financial landscape needed to scale Next Gen solutions. Alongside industry leaders such as Manmohan Parkash (Former Deputy Director General, ADB), Greeshma Hegde (Global Development Incubator), Sanchit Kukreja (Organic Cotton Accelerator), and Siddharth Lulla (Circular Apparel Innovation Factory), Nicole emphasized the role of policy incentives and impact investment in attracting scale-ready innovation to India.
“Take-make-waste production system is no longer fit for purpose. Climate crisis is increasingly disrupting supply chains with traditional fibre baskets becoming more volatile. There is a business imperative to have a resilient supply chain as well as changing the regulatory landscape. There is a value proposition & incentive for transitioning to more circular, Next Gen production."
This discussion reinforced the critical need for collaboration between policymakers, investors, and industry stakeholders to build the infrastructure required for a thriving Next Gen textile sector.

Maximizing Resource Efficiency – Driving the Future of Sustainable Textiles
Canopy’s Shruti Singh, India Hub Strategist, led a dynamic discussion with industry leaders on scaling circularity, enhancing traceability, and driving systemic change in fiber production. Panelists, including Nina Shariati, Komal Hiranandani, Anil (Indorama), Tejas Sampat (PVH Corp), Paul Wright (PDS), and Pranjal Goswami (Gokuldas Exports), shared insights on advancing sustainable materials and the growing momentum of pre-loved fashion. The key takeaway? The industry is at a turning point—scaling Next Gen solutions and embedding circular strategies isn’t optional; it’s essential for a truly sustainable future.

Showcasing Next Gen Materials at the Sustainability Pavilion
Canopy contributed to an engaging Next Gen materials display at the Ministry of Textiles’ Sustainability Pavilion, drawing attention from brands, manufacturers, and policymakers eager to explore low-carbon textile alternatives. The display featured breakthrough innovations from Canopy’s partners, including Circ®, Circulose, Birla Cellulose’s Liva Reviva, and Evrnu® — each demonstrating that solutions for sustainable, circular fashion are ready to scale.

India's Position as a Global Leader in Circular Textiles
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi reinforcing the importance of integrating textile waste back into production cycles, Bharat Tex solidified India’s position as a preferred sourcing hub for low-carbon textiles. Canopy’s presence at the event underscored the country’s unique opportunity to lead the world in sustainable textile manufacturing while supporting its national development and export strategies.
Looking Ahead: Scaling Next Gen Viscose Production
Building on the momentum from Bharat Tex, Canopy is working closely with local and international partners to scale the production of 60 million tonnes of Next Gen viscose pulp for textiles within the next decade. With strong policy support, investment incentives, and brand partnerships, India has the potential to become a global hub for circular textile innovation.
