Next Gen Packaging Campaigner (AKA Green Gecko)

You’ll work closely with brands, producers, innovators, and investors, bringing them together to drive the shift from wood-based packaging to Next Gen materials made from waste, such as agricultural residues and discarded textiles. Together, we’ll transform the global supply chain and safeguard our forests.

Responsibilities:
With the nimble strategy and determination of a Green Gecko, you’ll be the catalyst for sustainable solutions and forest-friendly practices:
Campaigns (90%)
- Engage large corporate consumers of forest products to develop and implement environmental purchasing policies and practices with attention to Next Generation alternatives.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with Next Gen innovators and provide advice and assistance to partners on strategies that will increase the supply of eco-friendly pulp for the packaging sector.
- Co-develop and manage tools and initiatives facilitate the adoption, integration, and purchasing of packaging derived from Next Gen feedstocks.
- Support companies in the sectors we work with in developing and implementing social marketing strategies and introducing value-added approaches to their business operations.
- Work closely with the Strategic Lead and the Canopy Impact team on campaign planning and implementation.
- Research and analyze industry and sustainability information. Regularly monitor developments and trends in industries and government policy that are relevant to Canopy’s work.
- Participate in preparing work plans, setting priorities, monitoring progress and establishing systems to ensure mutual support and accountability across all departments.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with relevant environmental organizations.
- Manage interns and contractors, as necessary.
Organisation-wide Responsibilities (10%)
Communications:
- Work with the Communications team to help develop communications plans and assets that attract traditional and social media to further Canopy’s organizational and conservation objectives, and contribute to designing effective and profile-building events and projects.
- Strategically use traditional and social media to reach campaign and organizational goals.
- Contribute to the drafting of press releases, background materials, and other communication documents.
- Participate in all relevant industry events and conferences, and organize Canopy activities such as Next Gen mill tours for brand partners as well as other profile-building events.
Development:
- Contribute to writing of funding proposals, when requested.
- Contribute to regular updating and monitoring of key metrics and statistics which track our campaigns’ progress, to be shared with brand partners, donors, investors and our key public audiences.
Organizational:
- Actively participate in weekly organizational meetings and annual planning.
- Use project management tools to track and coordinate work.
- Contribute to Canopy’s Organizational Development Plan.
- Support staff reviews and evaluations.
Desired Qualifications:
- 3-7 years’ experience in supply chain management, forest-risk commodities, and/or corporate sustainability, or prior direct experience in issue advocacy and forest conservation.
- Experience in project management programs and practices.
- Proven ability to develop and implement effective, impactful campaign
strategies. - Fully conversant with campaign advocacy terms and practices.
- Strong organization and facilitation skills.
- Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written.
- Skilled at representing their organization at external forums.
- Good negotiation, persuasion, and advocacy skills.
- Experienced in project management programs and practices.
- Embrace a “Yes, AND...” mindset to foster innovation and collaboration
- A passion for the world’s forests.
- Travel up to 20% may be required, depending on your location.
