New Producers Complete First-Ever CanopyStyle Audits in 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 14, 2022 — Today, environmental not-for-profit Canopy, with independent third-party auditors Preferred by Nature and SCS Global Services, as well as six man-made cellulosic (MMCF) producers and one dissolving pulp supplier have publicly released new CanopyStyle Audits.

The companies publishing audits include Jilin Chemical Fiber (viscose staple fibre, viscose filament yarn), Xinxiang Chemical Fiber/Bailu (viscose filament yarn), ENKA (viscose filament yarn), Kara Fiber (lyocell staple fibre), PT. Rayon Utama Makmur (RUM Indonesia) (viscose staple fibre), Kelheim (viscose staple fibre), as well as Cosmo Speciality Fibers (dissolving pulp). Three of these companies — Kara Fiber, RUM Indonesia, and Cosmo — are new participants in the CanopyStyle initiative.

“Canopy is very pleased to see more and more producers join the CanopyStyle initiative and follow through to get audited,” said Amanda Carr, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Canopy. “Canopy’s doors are wide open to all global producers of man-made cellulosic fibre who want to collaborate to forward Ancient and Endangered Forest conservation, as well as the scaling up of low-impact Next Generation fibre solutions.”

The audits, conducted for MMCF producers based around the world, found a variety of results: Jilin Chemical Fiber, Xinxiang Chemical Fiber, Kara Fiber, ENKA, Kelheim Fibres, and Cosmo Specialty Fibers were found to be at low risk of sourcing from Ancient and Endangered Forests and other controversial sources. RUM Indonesia, which has just recently begun its participation in the CanopyStyle initiative, have shifted to sourcing a higher proportion of FSC certified fibre, and require more information from their suppliers to properly assess risk.

The results for each audit, along with recommendations and corporate descriptions can be found below:
