Statement of Solidarity with Greenpeace

Published:

March 24, 2025

At Canopy, we stand in solidarity with our allies at Greenpeace International and Greenpeace USA in light of the recent U.S. court ruling that imposes a $660 million fine related to their efforts to support Indigenous communities in defending their lands and rights.

This verdict is about more than one organization — it sets a dangerous precedent for all who work to protect the environment and advance solutions to ‌the climate and biodiversity crises. The ability to advocate for our planet is critical, and actions that restrict peaceful protest and civil society’s voice threaten the progress we all strive for.

As an organization committed to scaling tangible solutions that protect the world’s forests and climate, Canopy believes that open dialogue, solution-driven collaboration, and the ability to speak up for nature are fundamental to creating a better future.

The planet has many champions within civil society, Indigenous and frontline communities, corporations, government, academia, and the judicial system. We stand with Greenpeace and all those dedicated to securing a thriving planet. Now, more than ever, we must stand together for solutions that benefit people and the planet
