Today, The Climate Pledge, Amazon, Stella McCartney, and Canopy launched the Climate Pledge Fashion Coalition at Climate Week NYC. Canopy is a strategic partner in this new initiative to scale more sustainable materials, reduce environmental effects, and prevent waste across fashion supply chains.

As a strategic partner, Canopy will bring expertise on forests, fibre, supply chains, and textile-to-textile recycling. Canopy’s contributions to the Coalition build on more than a decade of CanopyStyle collaboration, in which brands and MMCF producers collaborate with us to end sourcing from vital forests. Today, 79% of MMCF producers are rated Green Shirt in our annual Hot Button Report. We’re excited to add the leverage of the Climate Pledge Fashion Coalition to our ongoing CanopyStyle initiative to unlock more sustainable fashion supply chains.

Nicole Rycroft, Founder and Executive Director of Canopy, said, "We're told supply chains change slowly – we want to challenge that. With the right conditions, they've changed in years, not decades. The Next Gen transition won't happen brand-by-brand, it will be unlocked by collective action. By diversifying fashion's fibre basket with emerging Next Gen materials, this coalition will build more resilient supply, reduce sourcing risk, and keep vital forests standing."

Next Gen fibres take pressure off Ancient and Endangered Forests. However, the sector faces a challenge: producers want to see demand before investing in new capacity, and no single brand can supply that proof alone. By coming together, signalling demand, and sharing what works, the Coalition can address some of the systemic barriers that hold these fibres back.

The Coalition connects more than 50 fashion brands, manufacturers, and material innovators that have signed The Climate Pledge. Together, they will work to bring new materials, technologies, and lower-carbon supply chains to commercial scale. The Coalition will bring policymakers evidence that investment in production-stage change works, and will make the case for policy that rewards innovation upstream.
