Canopy is seeking a Junior Business Systems Analyst for a one-year role focused on designing and implementing the systems that help our teams make meaningful environmental impact. You will play a central role in operationalizing our Salesforce overhaul, improving information organization across teams, and supporting staff as they adopt new tools and ways of working.
We’re looking for a curious, systems-loving problem solver. The kind of person who sees messy processes and thinks, “I could make that better.”
As Canopy grows, so do the systems that support our work protecting the world’s forests. This role is about helping those systems evolve thoughtfully - making them more intuitive, connected, and actually helpful to the humans who use them.
A big focus of your work will be helping operationalize a redesigned Salesforce environment, supporting the rollout of new accounting systems, and improving how organizational knowledge and information flow across teams. You’ll help structure how information is stored, accessed, and used - from document organization to building out a knowledge base - so people spend less time hunting for things and more time doing impactful work.
This isn’t a purely technical back-office role. You’ll collaborate closely with Programs, Development, MEL, Operations, Culture & Engagement, IT partners, and external vendors to ensure systems are practical, scalable, and aligned with how people actually work.
If you love hands-on system problem solving, enjoy learning by doing, and want to see a clear connection between your work and real environmental impact, you’ll likely thrive here.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support organization-wide business systems improvements, with a focus on Salesforce for fundraising and campaign data, knowledge management, and other key systems used across Impact, Development, and Operations.
- Support the rollout and adoption of Canopy’s redesigned Salesforce platform used by Impact and Development teams.
- Coordinate data readiness, migration, and integrations related to Salesforce and other operational systems.
- Lead improvements to document storage, archiving, and information organization, including supporting the implementation of a knowledge base.
- Support data quality, reporting, and system alignment ensuring consistency across platforms in partnership with Operations leadership and MEL.
- Develop and maintain documentation, guidance, and training materials to support effective system use and handoff.
OUR IDEAL SYSTEMS SQUIRREL
ABOUT YOU
We care as much about mindset as experience. You’re a motivated, entrepreneurial learner who enjoys figuring things out and helping others work more effectively.
You’ll likely be a strong fit if:
- You’re energized by complex challenges where you can build, improve, and see tangible impact
- You’ve shown initiative - whether in work, volunteering, or side projects - to improve systems or processes
- You’re comfortable working in environments where things evolve quickly
- Canopy’s mission resonates with you, and you want your work to contribute to meaningful environmental outcomes
- You bring around 1–2 years of hands-on experience in business systems analysis, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong systems thinking and problem-solving skills
You may have developed your skills through system administration, operational support, implementation work, or hands-on data/process projects that required you to understand how teams use systems in the real world.
Core Capabilities
- Exposure to administering business systems (CRM, ERP, HRIS, accounting, marketing, or service platforms), including configuration, automation, and reporting as part of broader organizational workflows.
- Strong data management skills: imports/exports, formatting, deduplication, field mapping, cleanup, reconciliation, and basic spreadsheet formulas.
- Experience with role- and permission-based access models (roles, permission sets, profiles) and the ability to follow established change control and UAT processes.
- Ability to translate organizational needs into practical system updates, and to provide clear documentation and basic user support.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- A calm, professional approach in busy or shifting environments.
- Sound judgement and the ability to solve non-routine problems independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, while supporting staff with diverse levels of technical comfort.
- A collaborative “Yes, AND…” mindset.
- A passion for protecting the world’s forests.

Related or Transferable Experience
We value diverse backgrounds. Your qualifying experience might include:
- Supporting system analysis, updates, or user support in any organizational context.
- Taking initiative on a complex project outside a defined role (e.g., overhauling a process, leading a data cleanup, building a solution for a volunteer initiative).
- Experience in entrepreneurial ventures, mission-driven organizations, or environments that required you to be highly relational, nimble, and a self-directed problem-solver.
- Practical data management, process documentation, or supporting team adoption of new tools.
Nice to Haves (Not Required)
- Experience supporting nonprofit data systems, including routine donor or program data updates and basic reporting.
- Direct Salesforce configuration experience, including Objects, Fields, Flows, Validation Rules, and Reports/Dashboards.
- Salesforce certifications (Admin, Advanced Admin, Platform App Builder) or Trailhead Superbadges.
- Experience with integrations (APIs, Mailchimp, Zapier/Make) or basic SOQL.
- Experience with more advanced data management through the use of SQL or R programming.
- Knowledge of data governance or privacy/compliance considerations (e.g., GDPR, CPRA, PIPEDA) in a CRM context.
