CanopyStyle

The CanopyStyle initiative began working with clothing retailers and brands, as well as global viscose producers in 2014.  As of 2022, companies representing more than $700 billion in annual revenue have now come together with the goal of eliminating Ancient and Endangered Forests from their viscose and rayon supply chains.  Viscose producers are also working collaboratively, with 70% of the entire global supply now learning and improving with the support regular meetings with Canopy and from their annual CanopyStyle Audits.

The Hot Button Report

Canopy’s Hot Button Report is now the primary tool for all the brands, retailers and designers who are part of the CanopyStyle initiative as they analyse and select viscose supply chain partners to realize their public sourcing commitments.

It offers a detailed overview of the largest global producers of viscose and other MMCF products, ranking their raw material sourcing practices, documenting the risk of sourcing from Ancient and Endangered Forests, highlighting research and development of lower impact fibers and new disruptive innovation, and also noting when producers are showing leadership in supporting global forest conservation solutions.

Canopystyle Audit

CanopyStyle Audits provide producers of man-made cellulosic fiber with the tools required to improve their understanding of the forest of origin for their pulp, and to provide opportunities for learning and support on sustainable sourcing. The audit is based on a robust set of criteria created by Canopy with approval of the CanopyStyle Leaders for Forest Conservation comprised of Inditex/Zara, H&M, EILEEN FISHER, Stella McCartney and Marks & Spencer, and supported by all the brands partners of the CanopyStyle Initiative. The criteria are designed to establish a credible, third party verification process that determines the risk of sourcing from Ancient and Endangered forests and controversial sources. The audit provides a path to eliminating potential risks and improving sustainability and certainty for pulp sourcing.

Next Generation Solutions

In this turn-around decade for our planet, we can no longer afford to cut down the world’s Ancient and Endangered Forests to make paper, packaging, or viscose and rayon textiles for fashion.
