The Great Bear Rainforest Agreement
B.C. made headlines six years ago when it promised to save the Great Bear Rainforest.
But today logging is still allowed in 50% of the forest. The science is clear that as long as only half of the GBR is protected, the entire forest is at risk.
At least 70 per cent of the natural level of old-growth forest needs to be off-limits to logging if we want to protect one of the planet’s last intact temperate coastal rainforests from disappearing forever.
Canopy's corporate partnerships played an important role in getting the GBR Agreement signed, and we continue to work closely with our partners to support the Agreement.
Many of the CEOs in our leadership forum, Canopy Club, are working to protect the GBR by encouraging the B.C. Government fulfill its commitment to this pristine coastal forest. And other major companies we work with in Canada and the U.S. are doing the same.
Our allies have also launched a new campaign to end unsustainable logging in the GBR.
