The Canadian Magazine Industry Sets the Bar for Environmental Leadership
Canopy's ongoing work with the Canadian magazine industry has gained substantial ground: we have reached critical mass in Canada with three of the country's four major magazine conglomerates enacting environmental paper procurement policies.
Rogers Publishing, Transcontinental Inc. and St. Joseph Communications have developed eco-paper policies with a preference for recycled and FSC-certified fibre. These industry giants represent over one quarter of the total paper volume used by consumer magazines, and the impact of this shift will be immense.
Protecting Canadian Content
Our cutting edge work with the magazine sector in Canada leads the way for magazines internationally. Today:
-More than 180 Canadian magazines are committed to protecting forests by giving preference to recycled, FSC fibre and or agricultural waste fibre
-More than 25 Canadian magazines are now on the newsstands on Ancient Forest Friendly paper. Titles include explore, Cottage Life, Unlimited and The Walrus
-Many more magazines including Canadian Geographic, Canadian Art, Maclean's, Chatelaine, ON NATURE, Breathe a.s.c and Alive print on paper with 10-50% recycled content
-More than 30 magazine printers stock or source Ancient Forest Friendly™ or FSC papers
